Solving problems for a fair price

Rehnke business solutions offer
insulation, ag services

For Brandon and Tristen Rehnke, of Sauk Rapids, the point of a business is to solve their neighbors’ problems. Through their businesses — Norway Insulation and Central MN Ag Services — they help their clients keep their buildings warm and machinery in working order.

“I like solving problems,” Brandon said.

When the Rehnkes moved to their cattle farm north of Sauk Rapids around 2014, they were working on refurbishing their house when Brandon got a quote for spray foam insulation. The quote was high, and the salesman’s pushy demeanor rubbed Brandon the wrong way. So, he bought a trailer from a friend who was getting out of the spray foam business and handled the job himself.

“After that, the (salesman) kept calling and calling,” Brandon said. “I said, ‘You should just stop out.’ We had the house all done, and he said, ‘Why did you waste my time coming out here?’ I told him, ‘Because I want to formally introduce myself: I’m Brandon Rehnke with St. Cloud Spray Foam. I’m your new competition.’”

When they started St. Cloud Spray Foam, the Rehnkes had also been hearing lots of negative feedback about other spray foam businesses at the time; and, after Brandon’s own experience, he wanted to make sure people had an option that would not be trying to take advantage of them.

Now they have started Norway Spray Foam and are covering a larger area. The new name shows the customer we are willing to expand our area and not look like we just cover St Cloud. We are growing, it's a simple as that with the same great knowledgeable service covering a bigger area on the map.

“We try to give you the best value for the best possible products,” Brandon said. “I would never spray something in someone else’s house or do something I haven’t done already on my own.”

St. Cloud Spray Foam works with several spray foam products, adjusting what they apply based on the weather. They have also expanded to blown-in, fiberglass batting and rigid foam insulation as well as some waterproofing and commercial roof coatings. At the beginning of this year, they added on Norway Insulation in order to serve areas farther north of St. Cloud.

Prior to starting St. Cloud Spray Foam, Brandon ran Brandon’s Mobile Repair. In 2018, he restarted the business as Central MN Ag Services, focusing on agricultural equipment and services such as repair, parts sales, custom work and excavating. They also have a commercial account with partners, so they can offer hauling.

“We’re doing a lot of ag repair,” Brandon said. “It depends on the season. … Wintertime, it’s usually just tractors and that kind of stuff.”

Brandon generally shows up on site for anything within half an hour’s drive, but otherwise, he can show up with a semi, haul the equipment, fix it and bring it back.

Between the insulation and agricultural services, Brandon and Tristen enjoy giving quality services for a non-exploitative price.

“On the spray foam side, you get some of these houses that are extremely inefficient, and they can hardly afford heating it,” Brandon said. “We were in one last year that had no insulation in the ceiling, and their heating bill was $1,600 a month. Then, we went in, … and their heating bill was down to $200 a month. … It makes a heck of a difference.”
